Held me Spellbound in the Night: 2013 Spellbound Petite Sirah

Okay, I know. Witchy Woman might be a little off-base... but better than I Put a Spell on You, right? right? Photos today courtesy of bro-in-law John!

Have you ever have one of those movies that you'd watch as a child that wasn't actually good, but you loved it anyway?

When my sister and I were little, there were a few movies that we would watch over and over (and over). Whether it was The Princess and the Goblin (me), or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Haley), every time we visited Video Palace we'd beg my dad to rent one (or both. Usually both).

Our insistence on watching the same movie roughly a million times eventually affected my dad so much that he made a new movie rule: When we went to the video store, he got to choose the movie.

Why do you build me up, Butternut?: 2012 Butternut Chardonnay

I think that my post titles are really getting better.

I think that my post titles are really getting better.

I'm a fall person.

Like, I don't know if I'd voluntarily refer to myself as Pinterest-level fall, and I think Pumpkin Spice Lattes are way too sweet, but boots, leaves, apple-picking? Give it to me. I love cozy sweaters, and bonfires, and other fall-tivities (Although admittedly I'm not great at haunted houses- I was scarred as a young child due to an unfortunate experience at the Mummy walk-through attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood— thanks a lot Imhotep).

One of my favorite fall activities is directly related to the abundance of squash available this time of year, specifically the carving and roasting parts (which would sound kiiiinda weird if I wasn't talking about squash). I love roasting vegetables, since it's an easy and delicious way to get the most flavor out of your vegetables, and there's something so nice and fall-like about roasting squash with olive oil and rosemary.

So why the squash talk? This is not a food blog, you might think. This is a wine blog. I promise I know that.

So let's talk about wine now.

Yeah, I feel like a Force of Nature: 2013 Force of Nature Red Wine

...Those may be Oasis lyrics. Not from "Wonderwall," which if you know me is a surprise. I love me some "Wonderwall.

...Those may be Oasis lyrics. Not from "Wonderwall," which if you know me is a surprise. I love me some "Wonderwall.

I love games.

Not as in, "daaaaaang that girl loves playing games," or as in "quit playing games with my heart," but actual games, like Catch Phrase, and Taboo, and Balderdash.

While I am admittedly terrible at any game involving strategy (I stay far away from Risk, Monopoly, and anything else that requires plotting), I love how playing games can bring a group of people together.

Recently, my friend group has been playing Cards Against Humanity. For those of you who may not be familiar with this game, think Apples to Apples, but with cards that are a little more... scandalous. (okay, maybe a lot more scandalous... sometimes I'm not even sure what a card actually is, but I know it's not good).

However, I've found that when playing Cards Against Humanity, the winning cards are not always necessarily the ones that make you gasp with embarrassment. Instead, they are the cards that are unexpected (A Falcon with a Cap on its Head is always a popular one), the ones that startle a laugh because despite what you were expecting- you weren't expecting "what makes a romantic evening" to end with A Really Cool Hat.

A Little Bit of Zinfandel in my life: Hey Mambo 2012 "Sultry Red"

Okay.... so I couldn't avoid making a Mambo No. 5 Joke. SORRY I'M NOT SORRY

Okay.... so I couldn't avoid making a Mambo No. 5 Joke. SORRY I'M NOT SORRY

There’s nothing like a great night with friends. One of those nights where you look at the people around you and think: Yes. This. We are 100% going to remember this night when we are 80 and sitting in our homes surrounded by cats (just me?).

Then there are the nights when no one can decide what to do and you end up having impromptu dance parties to classic jams like “Shake Yo Tailfeather,” and “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” which is more along the lines of the kinds of night that comes to mind when drinking the Hey Mambo 2012 “Sultry Red” blend.
